They’re off and running!

6 October 2021

The new League season got going tonight – the first over-the-board League chess since March 2020.
Limewood is fielding 3 teams in the new 2-division slimmed-down League – Limewood A in Division 1, Limewoods B and C in Division 2.

Team A were off to a flying start, crushing West Leeds 5 – nil with straight wins from Paul Brencher, Paul Johnson, Daniel Hill, Paul May and Rob Lockwood.

In fairness we must admit that Limewood outgraded West Leeds at all boards, by an average of some 155 points, so the result should not be a surprise. Much tougher fixtures await in the coming months.

Team B (playing away at Oakwood) also brought home a notable victory – by 3 points to 2 – from their match against Rose Forgrove D. Wins came from John Grasham, Ian Carrigan and John Light.

The short straw was drawn by Team C. They were playing Leeds B whose bottom board was graded 165 points higher than our top board – with an average gap of some 440 points. Hard lines, lads. There are easier teams to play.

Full details of the results can be seen on the ECF’s LMS site which you can go to via our Fixtures & Results menu tab at the top of this page.
