So near – but not quite near enough

25 April 2018

Our Team B was within touching distance. Promotion to Division 2 would have been theirs if they had won their final match or if West Leeds had beat Pudsey B.

In the event neither happened. Pudsey thumped fellow promotion-chasers West Leeds and our lads were held to a draw by Leeds C. So we finish in 3rd place, level on match points with West Leeds but losing out to them on goal difference (game points).

Still, it has otherwise been a great season for the team which has proved that it is a force to be reckoned with. Well done all who have helped it along the way! And roll on next season!

Meanwhile we give out sincerest congratuations and best wishes to everyone in the 2 promoted teams: Pudsey B and West Leeds.

Eh? What was that grating noise? Oh, just teeth being gritted.

Team C also played their final match of the season. They lost 4: 1. Noteworthy games were those of David Halpin who drew with Alwoodley’s Ivor Timmis and that of Paul Smith whose game against Sylvan Clarke ran to something over 80 moves.

That’s it for the main (5-player) league for this season. But still to come are the final rounds of the 3-player Mini League, the Arjay Trophy and the Ellis & Appleby competitions for individuals. Limewood are still involved in all of them.

Also still to come are the Invitation-only U100s tournament on 30 May, organised by Sylvan Clarke of Alwoodley, and our very own Limewood Club Blitz Championship on 6 June.
