Short and very sweet – that was Steve Hodgson’s game that wins this week’s star prize. It took him just 14 moves to checkmate his hapless opponent. A little gem of a game. (More about it on Paul’s Page and in the Games section for members only.)
The match was the first round proper of this year’s Arjay Plate – a knockout tournament for 3-player teams. Our second team was playing against a Rose Forgrove trio.
At Board 2 Limewood won because the Forgrove player forgot that the game isn’t over till the fat lady sings.
The result: Limewood won the match by 2 games to 1.
With only one 3-player team in action, there was scope for friendly games as well and several members enjoyed an evening of less formal competition. In particular we welcomed two new members: Guy Dixon and Paul Smith.
