With the Chinese New Year and the Year of the Rat rapidly approaching, Team B were keen to keep up the pressure in their promotion race. They did it, with a win over Rose Forgrove’s E Team.
The margin of victory wasn’t as great as they had hoped but wins from Kevin Plaxton and Hertbert Lockwood and a couple of draw were enough to give them the points. This keeps them alongside promotion rivals Harrogate and Pudsey B with 12 points each at the top of Division 3.
Team C were not playing tonight but Teams A and D faced tough opposition from University A and Harrogate respectively.
John Grasham collected Team A’s solitary point while Team D’s point came from draws at boards 4 and 5 where Steve Hodgson and Alan Riddle both faced grade deficits of over 40 points.
