Leeds Chess Association meeting on Zoom

9 July 2020

A Leeds Chess Association meeting – a quasi-AGM – is to be held online via Zoom on Wed 15 July at 7 pm.

THIS MEETING IS POSTPONED INDEFINITELY
On 29 June the LCA Secretary wrote,”…. many officers and members want some sort of meeting to talk about the issues we are facing and make proposals for ways to wrap up the 2019-2020 season.”

On 13 July: ” ….. after further reflection the majority of the officers of the LCA do not feel there is any point in having a zoom discussion meeting until the Covid situation is much clearer.”

The purpose is to discuss and agree matters that would normally be dealt with at an AGM. (For procedural reasons this is not the actual AGM. The idea is that the meeting can reach an agreed view and advise the Officers accordingly.)

Items for consideration as notifed by the LCA Secretary include:

* * * * * * * * * * * *

1. Re-election of officers
2. Decisions on the final tables in the League. (This topic includes matters of promotion and relegation of teams.)
3. Decisions on how to conclude the other tournaments (Arjay, Mini and Rapid Leagues and the Ellis & Appleby competitions.)
4. Information about venues following Covid
5. Plans for the new season – possible number of teams once the situation is clearer
6. University position after Covid
7. Setting a date for a future meeting
8. AOB
– proposal to name the first division itself or prize the Michael Haygarth Division/Trophy

* * * * * * * * * * * *

Limewood has a particular interest in Item 2 as two of our four league teams will be affected by decisions reached. If promotion and relegation are based on the present standings in the unfinished fixture list, then Team A is facing likely relegation from Division 1 while Team B is looking for promotion to Division 2.

Limewood also has an interest in the outcome regarding the Mini League with our M2 team high up in the table.

All Limewood members are entitled to attend the Zoom meeting. If you would like to attend, please let Paul May know so that he can send you the Zoom link for the meeting when it is available. If you don’t plan to attend but wish your views to be known, please give your comments to Paul so that he can pass them on to the group.
