The good news was that our Team D had a runaway victory by 4 points to 1 with straight wins at Boards 1 to 3 for Ian Carrigan, Richard Jefferies and Steve Hodgson and draws at Boards 4 and 5 for David Hanover and Paul Smith.
The bad news was that it was at the expense of our C Team where only Rob Ford and David Halpin managed to salvage something from the wreckage.
This was Rob’s first game for the club – welcome Rob! To avoid possible confusion, given that our list of players includes such celebrity names as Nigel Lawson, Bela Lugosi, Phil May and Philip ‘takes the bins out’ May (two celebs for the price of one), we should make it clear that our Rob Ford is not a reincarnation of the notorious crack-smoking, publicity-seeking 64th Mayor of Toronto.
Our top team did pretty well too. They beat a strong Copperworks top team by 3½ to 1½, with wins from Tom Leah, Holi and Robert Moneagle and a draw from Paul May.
Our B Team rounded off the day nicely for us with a draw against the other Copperworks team. John Grasham continued his fine run of form with a sparkling win against a 152-grade opponent and there were draws from Paul Anderson, Eric Brodie and Chris Tatham.
