It was technically a home game though played at Alwoodley (at their request), so that was why we had the black pieces.
‘Home advantage’ or not, we came away with a measly 1½ points out of 5. But it was better than last season when our games against Alwoodley were either 4½:½ or 4:1 against us. We can draw some encouragement from that.
Bright spot of the evening was that Steve Hodgson marked up a score in only his second played match of the season. He drew against Mark Herbert who is graded some 34 points higher.
Our full-pointer was from Paul May who beat Peter Saunders.
