Welcome back after the festive break! We wish you all a very Happy New Year and the return at some stage of over-the-board chess. Meantime, online chess is booming and Limewood members are among the many who are making good use of it.
We started the year tonight by joining with Alwoodley in another Arena battle on the Lichess platform. In this there is no set number of rounds. As you finish one game you will be automatically paired with the another player. Winning games quickly allows you to play more games and accumulate more points.
It proved a good night for Mick Carrigan, playing under his Lichess ID of Badger003. He chomped his way through 14 games in the time available, winning 7 of them and earning himself a place on the Winners podium. His victims included the eventual winner of the event, Avatar1424 (a Yorkshire Junior).
Forget the cute and cuddly image of badgers as created by the Nutwood stories. Badgers are fighters. Treat with caution.
Two online 4NCL events are coming up.
Weekend congress: Fri-Sun 15-17 Jan with Open, U2000, U1700 and U1400 sections.
Spring congress: Tuesday evenings fortnightly, running 2 February till 27 April, 7 rounds in all. Sections as for the weekend congress.
